UPDATED CHANGE TO LCPS REOPENING PLAN

July 29, 2020

Good Evening LCPS Family,

I would like to inform you of a change to our plan for reopening schools. As you know, the Commonwealth is experiencing a rise in Covid-19 cases throughout the Eastern Region. New guidance recently provided to school superintendents from the VDH would recommend LCPS enter the school year under more restrictions than our current plan allows. This guidance has led us to change our school opening to a full distance learning model for the first nine weeks. We fully understand the impact this decision will have on families. It has truly been our desire to open on a hybrid model, providing a choice to families. We plan to implement these new changes, train our staff, and reassess the possibility of opening on our hybrid model for the second nine weeks. Our distance learning will look far different than what was offered in the spring. Our teachers will deliver new content remotely through Canvas. The work will be required and graded. Our distance learning model will allow flexibility in participation times to accommodate family needs. Devices and hot spots are still available for all students. If you need either, please go to our website to place a request. Again, the safety of our children and staff will remain our top priority. I will be providing more details in the very near future. As these unprecedented times continue, we will work together to provide a platform for all students to succeed.

Dan Russell
