Colin Maksym is a senior at Lancaster High School. He is currently enrolled in the Auto Body Program at the Northern Neck Technical Center (NNTC). Colin shared that his father, who is a mechanic, was an inspiration to him. He stated that he learned about auto mechanics from his father and that he wanted to extend his learning to include auto body work. Colin feels this would enable him to combine his skills and be more well-rounded in the field of automotives.
Colin shared he enjoys the hands-on experiences he engages in at the NNTC. There are a range of activities such as repairing fenders, welding, painting, removing parts of a car and reinstalling auto parts. Colin also shared there are interpersonal skills important to success such as being able to communicate with peers and work as a team.
Colin wants younger students to take advantage of the opportunities that Lancaster High School has to offer and would encourage students to explore careers and find what they love. He stated, “If you have passion for your job, you will never work a day in your life.”
Colin is looking forward next year to attending RCC and then later transferring to a four year college. Colin’s passion for automotives extends beyond mechanics and auto body. Besides being part of a NASCAR Late Model team, he is also a driver in the US Legend Car series.
Lancaster High School is proud of Colin and his accomplishments in Career & Technical Education and look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.

This week, Suzanne C. Novak, President and CEO of ERUdyne Inc., collaborated with Katie Bavuso's Science, Technology, and Society class to demonstrate the applications of drones across various careers. Students not only gained insights into potential career paths but also had the opportunity to construct and pilot a drone. They practiced flying and navigating the drone through an obstacle course, emphasizing precision and control during flight.
These hands-on experiences encourage students to explore career options they may not have previously considered and to nurture their interest in these fields.
