The REAL Deal Health Careers Program was introduced to Lancaster High School students by senior nursing and paramedic students from Rappahannock Community College. This program provides high school students with an immersive experience that begins with a simulated pre-hospital scenario and progresses to a hospital setting. Through interactive skills stations, students will gain valuable insights into the collaborative and interprofessional nature of healthcare careers. This hands-on experience reflects the practical training that RCC offers to health science students, applying essential skills in real-world contexts.
Students also became more aware of the programs that RCC can offer to help them achieve their goals of a career in the healthcare industry.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Rappahannock Community College, the senior nursing and paramedic team, and Karen Hutchens for organizing this exceptional opportunity, which helps students explore to connect their passions to purposeful careers.

On March 27th, the Virginia Cooperative Extension-4H conducted the Reality Store program for 9th grade students at Lancaster High School. This interactive educational initiative aims to engage students in the complexities of financial decision-making.
Each student was assigned a random career, complete with a specified monthly salary before taxes and the educational qualifications required for that profession. Additionally, they were assigned a hypothetical family situation, some of which included dependents they needed to support with their monthly incomes.
As part of the exercise, students faced real-world financial decisions, such as paying taxes and other essential expenses. They interacted with volunteers stationed at various tables, who guided them in prioritizing their spending. For instance, students had to secure housing before they could purchase furniture. Other categories included groceries, education, entertainment, and childcare. Throughout the activity, students tracked their expenditures against their incomes, gaining insight into how factors such as salary, family size, and personal choices influence their economic circumstances. Many students were surprised to learn about the costs associated with their needs and wants and how these expenses affected their financial choices.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Ms. Tara Brent and Ms. Jasmine Greer for organizing this event, as well as to all the community volunteers who contributed to the success. Another thanks goes to the staff at LHS who worked to make this event possible.
Lancaster High School is proud to partner with the Virginia Cooperative Extension office to enhance students' understanding of financial literacy and the implications of their educational choices on their future economic decisions. It is partnerships such as these that help students link their passions with a purposeful career.

From a young age, Braelyn has had a passion for creation, problem-solving, and building, with Lego projects being among her favorite activities. Her grandmother played a significant role in encouraging her strengths in these areas, advising her to pursue a career that leverages her creativity and problem-solving abilities. Colin feels this would enable him to combine his skills and be more well-rounded in the field of automotives.

There are a range of activities such as repairing fenders, welding, painting, removing parts of a car and reinstalling auto parts.
