On March 10, 2026, interested Lancaster High School students in grades 10–12 had an incredible opportunity to attend the 2nd Annual Marine Career Day hosted by Friends of the Rappahannock at the Rappahannock Tribal Lodge at Cat Point Creek.
Students learned about the many green and blue career pathways connected to our local waterways and coastal environment. Through hands-on conversations and presentations, they explored careers in marine science, oyster restoration, fisheries management, water quality monitoring, conservation law enforcement, and environmental engineering. They also learned how protecting the Rappahannock River supports both the ecosystem and the local economy.
Many students discovered how jobs in our region involve restoring oyster reefs, studying marine habitats, protecting wildlife, managing sustainable fisheries, and improving water quality—all careers that make a real impact on the health of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. It was inspiring for students to see how their interests in science, the outdoors, and the environment can lead to meaningful careers right here in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.
A huge thank you to Friends of the Rappahannock and all the presenters and partners who made this experience possible. Your commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards is truly appreciated.
We are grateful for the opportunity for our students to learn about careers that help protect and sustain our rivers, wildlife, and coastal communities for years to come! 🌎🐟🌱
