Good evening LES families,
As we have stepped into May, there are several updates and reminders for a successful close of the school year. I want to start by reminding our community of Teacher Appreciation Week this week while we celebrate the teachers and staff that make an impact on our students every day. I encourage you to think of the people that work with your child and recognize them in some way.
Our Spring concerts are this week - chorus on Tuesday at 7pm and band on Wednesday at 7pm. Both are held in the LES auditorium with doors opening for guests at 6:30 pm. All guests will arrive via the auditorium entrance through our Open Gate weapon detectors. No bags, please. Prior to Tuesday's chorus concert, our PTA will hold its last meeting of the year at 6pm in the Community Room with parents able to enter via the main office. Whether you have attended a meeting in the past or not, I hope to see you there to share your ideas and see how you can get involved!
Students of all grade levels have been participating in Spring testing, with 3rd - 7th graders taking their end-of-year SOL tests. Student scores will be available once testing is complete at the end of next week, as we have many students that are still preparing for an expedited retake and we want to help them remain focused. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Students that are on track for an early Summer vacation will receive letters this week to sign of your receipt and permission to miss the last week of school. The last day of school for those students that have met their goals will be Friday, May 15th. For all other students, the last day of school is Wednesday, May 20th. Quarter 4 report cards will be mailed home after the last day of school.
Field Days are approaching next week at LES with our 5th, 6th, and 7th grades participating on Thursday, May 14th at varying times. K-4th grade will hold field day on Friday, May 15th beginning at 9:00 am. Guardians are invited to attend on this day with valid ID and will check in near the cafeteria sidewalk. For security purposes, parents may not enter the school building during Field Day other than via the front office.
As the school year winds down, our expectations for positive interactions and behavior remain high. Please do not allow your child to bring toys and devices to school, as these may be confiscated by their teacher if they are brought out in the learning environment. All school rules must continue to be followed including our electronic device policy of "off and away".
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child's education.
Go Red Devils,
Mr. Keegan Walters
Principal, LES
