LES Families,

Progress reports were sent home today with all students to help you keep track of your child's academic performance so far in Q4. Please review these and reach out to your child's teacher with any questions. Some students also received invitations to our Summer Learning Academy. Students were invited for a variety of reasons, including potential absenteeism, failing grades, failing SOL tests, low MAP performance, or VALLSS indicating risk. If your child received one, please review this, complete it, and return to school no later than Friday, April 24th.

SOL testing for students in grades 3-7 will begin soon with whole-group reading testing occurring April 28th, whole-group math testing occurring April 30th, and 5th science & 4th VA Studies on May 5th. Please help your child be as prepared as possible, as proficiency is the goal for all students. Study guides are available at https://www.lcs.k12.va.us/o/les/page/study-guides behind the password lcps2025. Ensuring that your child is reading a book for at least 15 minutes per night, completing homework, making flash cards, rewriting notes, etc. are all helpful preparation practices. Our minimum school goals at LES are for 75% of students in grades 3-7 to score proficient in reading, at least 70% to score proficient in math, science, and social studies, and all students not yet at proficiency to grow from prior year scores toward passing. Students that earn an advanced score of 500 or higher will join the "500 club" and enjoy a pizza party and school-wide recognition.

Please continue to prioritize daily attendance for your children, including being at school prior to 8:15 am. If your child misses school, please provide a written note within three days. If your child's afternoon transportation will change for a given day, please be sure to send a written note in their folder so that our school has time to make appropriate preparations prior to dismissal.

Finally, with several weeks left in the school year, it is crucial that our student conduct and behavior in school is at its best. Students should not bring toys or non-academic items to school and must conduct themselves properly while at school. The focus of student interactions should be positive and academic, and issues arising from out of school activities or social media have no place in the school environment. Failure to engage in proper student conduct may result in removal from class and loss of privileges while there are fun activities planned for the end of the year. Together we can finish our school year strong while achieving the academic goals we share for our students.

Thank you for your continued involvement and support in your child's education,

Mr. Keegan Walters

Principal, LES
