Good afternoon LES families,
It was great to see so many of our students back after what I hope was a safe and fun Spring Break. Our attendance was high today with only 25 absences, our lowest number in a month. Let’s keep up that trend as we finish the school year strong, including having all students at school before the 8:15 am bell.
This Friday holds our Q3 awards assemblies. The schedule is as follows:
2nd & 3rd grade: 8:45 am
4th & 5th grade: 9:30 am
6th & 7th grade: 10:15 am
K & 1st grade: 12:00 pm
Visitors will enter using the auditorium doors. Please have photo ID ready and no bags.
SOL testing for 3rd – 7th graders is approaching, with whole-group testing occurring on the following dates: reading on April 28th, math on April 30th, and 5th gr. Science / 4th gr. VA Studies on May 5th. Not all students will test in whole-group formats, so some dates may vary. Proficiency on SOL tests is the expectation for all students. Helping to ensure that your child is prepared is key. Study guides are found on the LES website here with password lcps2025. Reading each night, completing homework, and logging onto IXL help as well. All students have a goal that has been set with their teacher. If you aren’t sure of this goal, please reach out to their teacher. We have some great incentives in place for our students when they achieve proficiency and reach their goals!
We hope that you can join us in some of our upcoming events:
- Our last K-3 family engagement night for the year is April 16th from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. The theme is "Literacy Carnival" to celebrate our literacy and reading efforts. We hope to see you there!
- The LCPS Art show will be open to the public next Saturday, April 18th in the LES gym from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
- Staff appreciation week is scheduled for the week of May 4th – May 8th. We are excited to celebrate the wonderful staff that contribute so much to our school community this week!
- Our Spring chorus concert will be held May 5th at 7:00 pm and the Spring band concert on May 6th at 7:00 pm.
