Good evening LES families,

Now that last week's awards assemblies are behind us, quarter 2 is well underway at LES. It was exciting to celebrate the academic, attendance, and behavioral accomplishments of our students last Friday. Of the 536 students at LES, 417 missed only 2 or fewer days of school in the first quarter. If our school year were to end today, our chronic absenteeism would stand at only 8.7%, our lowest number in the last two years. Thank you for helping us raise the bar as a school community by engaging with your child's teachers, enforcing homework routines, reviewing school-appropriate behavior, and encouraging studying and preparation for tests.

Thursday evening is our Fall Carnival and Trunk or Treat event sponsored by the PTA for PreK - 5th grade families from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Come through the cafeteria entrance and make a loop of the school to receive candy, play games, and have a fun evening with our school community. We ask that no masks or props are brought for costumes. You can still bring candy for our candy drive - right now the Red Rappahannock house is in the lead with the most donations!

Friday is Book Character Dress Up day at LES on Halloween. Like the above guidelines, we ask that no masks, face paint, inflatables, or props be brought to school. We will have fun awards for students in a variety of categories! Keep the costumes and join the fun at Saturday's Red Devil Run beginning at 9 am - you can still sign up here: https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/Kilmarnock/TheRedDevilRun

Finally, we are looking ahead to the first milestone on the way to our Spelling Bee. The week of November 17th, each 3rd - 7th grade class will have a mini-bee to crown a champion that will go on to compete at the school event. The LES champion will go on to compete against other school winners in Richmond! Please check your 3rd - 7th grade child's folder this week for information and practice words for the class mini-bees.

Thank you for your continued support and go Red Devils!
