Good evening LES families,

Tomorrow begins the second quarter of our school year with report cards going home this Friday. Please check your child’s folder for his or her report card in a brown envelope for you to review, sign the envelope, and return it to school. You may keep the report card and documents. If your child is not making sufficient progress, we ask that you continue to communicate and work with his or her teacher in your partnership with the school while we help them succeed.

To aid with student achievement, we have posted 3rd – 7th grade content study guides on our school website under the “Parents” tab titled Study Guides. The password for this page is lcps2025, all lowercase. The study guide for 4th grade science is under 5th grade as it contains both. These study guides can help with both homework completion, quiz, and benchmark test preparation. A reminder that all students in grades 3-7 will take end of year SOL tests in their content areas this Spring.

Student behavior continues to be held to high standards at LES. Our house system reinforces these daily positive choices with students earning points when their good decisions are observed by staff. We strive to keep our learning environments disruption-free and students that continue to violate this are addressed. Please help us in supporting this necessary expectation by reviewing behavior regularly with your child.

Coming up at LES, we have a variety of events worthy of addition to your calendar:

On Wednesday, October 22nd we will recognize Unity Day at LES by wearing orange and highlighting how our school is better when we work together. We are keeping October’s bullying awareness importance by training staff about the signs and components of bullying as well as how to report it. October 23rd will see us “camp out” in the cafeteria from 5:30 – 7:00pm at our monthly K-3 literacy night. Friday the 24th will see our Quarter 1 Awards Assemblies. On the evening of the 30th, we will again have our Trunk or Treat event for K-5 from 4-6pm. We are holding a candy drive for this event and students that bring candy to school anytime between now and then will earn points for their house. A flyer for this is attached to the email. On October 31st students are encouraged to dress up for Book Character Day, and we are still welcoming participants for the 3rd annual Red Devil Run on November 1st at 9am. You can sign up at https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/Kilmarnock/TheRedDevilRun.

As always, thank you for your continued support in your child’s education at LES.

Have a great evening and go Red Devils!

Mr. Keegan Walters

Principal, LES
