Thursday, February 11th will be a virtual day for all students including those enrolled in the Regional Special Education Program and the Northern Neck Technical Program. Staff will report at 8 am unless otherwise notified.

Good Evening LCPS Families,
As shared at last night’s meeting, the LCPS School Board continues to support the recommendation from our January meeting to resume with our Return to Learn Plan. The plan is to move forward with Pre-K through sixth graders returning February 16th on our hybrid model and seventh through twelfth graders returning March 1st on our hybrid model. Virtual learning will remain an option for all students. Dismissal for all students will be at 1:00 p.m. and Fridays will remain a virtual learning day for all students. Students and staff are expected to follow all safety guidelines in order to maintain our safety mitigations. Again, these are uncharted territories for us. We know there will be issues that we will have to work through. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we proceed.
For the sake of consistency, we will follow this plan unless a major event, local health data or a challenge with having available staff prohibits our ability to proceed with providing in-person learning opportunities through our hybrid model. Families of students who will be attending in-person should prepare for the possibility of having to shift between learning modes from time to time. The Learning Modes may be different for each school if the necessity arises. You can view the ‘LCPS Learning Modes’ chart along with the current designated mode for LCPS at all times on our website. (lcs.k12.va.us) We will also communicate directly with families if a shift in mode is necessary.
Dan Russell, Superintendent

January 14, 2021
Good Afternoon LHS Families,
With the steady rise in COVID-19 cases within our county, and in consultation with the Three Rivers Health District, we want to let you know that Lancaster County Public Schools has decided to cancel participation in Virginia High School League (VHSL) winter sports for the 2020-21 school year. We will continue to monitor local health data, referencing our LCPS Daily Sports Participation Criteria, to determine participation in the remaining sports seasons. We will work creatively with our winter sports athletes needing additional sports requirements for college athletics on a case by case basis.
This decision is not one that we made lightly. We will continue to make decisions about the safety of our students, staff and community that are data based. When we look at the measures we are taking on a daily basis to keep the community safe, through virtual learning and school closures based on COVID-19 cases, it would be inadvisable to support bringing students in to participate in athletics at this time. We are the fourth of the six school divisions in our district to make the difficult decision to cancel winter sports.
We do realize the importance of exercise and healthy habits in our students’ daily lives. We strongly encourage not just our athletes, but all of our students to continue to participate in healthy activities. We will continue to monitor VDH/CDC School Metrics Data for decisions regarding the upcoming fall and spring sports schedules. As always, our number one priority is the safety of our staff and students.
Thank you!

Quarter 1 parent teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 1st. Teachers at Lancaster Middle and Lancaster High schools are contacting parents to set up virtual or phone meetings at times convenient to parents for that day. In lieu of evening conferences on October 1st, Lancaster Primary School teachers & families are conferencing at parent convenience throughout the week.
If you have any questions about the parent teacher conferences, please reach out to your child's teachers. We look forward to working with you to maximize the success of our children.

Interims were originally scheduled to be sent on September 25th. Due to the nature of the start of this school year and grading practices starting later than usual, we will not be sending interims home on this date. All grades earned to date, are, and will remain, accessible through PowerSchool for both students and parents to access and monitor at any time.
Also, as a reminder, please mark your calendars. November 3rd, election day, is now a state holiday and all LCPS schools and offices will be closed.

If you log in to Canvas and get a message from Canvas that says 'We're sorry, too many people are accessing this website at the same time. We're working on this problem. Please try again later,' please wait a bit and try logging back in.
Many schools in Virginia started back to school today and many kids are logging on to Canvas all over the state.

Instead, we will be offering the SAT School Day administrations on Wednesday, 9/23 and Wednesday, 10/14. Registration for these tests will no longer occur online on the CollegeBoard website. Please contact Anne Yahl at (804)462-5100 ext. 4012 to register for the test. Due to limited capacity, you may only register for one of these administrations. Priority will be given to those students that were registered for the cancelled August and September weekend administrations.
We apologize for this change. It was made to ensure the safety of our students.

Just a reminder:

We want to make everyone aware that our plan will include an option for full virtual learning for those that have underlying health issues or those that would prefer learning from home. Those students who choose this option will remain LCPS students and therefore will have the ability to participate in extracurricular activities including athletics. More information and access to the application will be made available in the near future.

Yesterday we called to invite our families to provide feedback to several survey questions. Unfortunately, due to power outages and internet disruptions at the time the call went out, there were some glitches so we have sent the call again for those that were not able to provide their responses. If you missed the call, either today or yesterday, a link to the survey is provided below. As a reminder, we will be opening schools as least restrictive as safety guidelines at the time allow; however, we do want to gather information over the next few weeks that will help us develop plans for all possible phases. If you had already provided responses yesterday, you do not need to complete the survey again.
