ACADEMIC AND SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Lancaster County Public Schools sponsors several programs for children with special gifts and needs.

  • Through affiliations with its partner schools, students are able to pursue specialized studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and in a variety of Career and Technical Education (CTE) specialties.
  • Programs in the primary, middle and high school are offered for students needing academic reinforcement or specialized individual attention.
  • Annually the District conducts the Child Find program to identify children and young adults (ages 2 to 22) who may be eligible for one of several special educational programs designed to serve those with disabilities. Further information is available at the link below.
  • LCPS has begun an “Mobile Device” to allow students to become familiar with this latest form of technology. Students in all three schools have opportunities to use mobile devices  to complete school assignments, allowing them to see how this valuable resource has real-world application in many fields. Currently all third-graders are issued an chromebooks for in-class use.
  • In accordance with the McKinney-Vento Act, the Local Homeless Education Liaison is Tish Scott. She can be reached at 804-462-5100, extension 2801, or by email at lscott@lcs.k12.va.us.

Some students may be eligible to participate in the Public School Choice and Supplemental Educational Services Program. Further information about LCPS participation can be found in the District’s Special Education Policy Procedure Manual (PDF). Parents wishing to know more about these programs should contact the District Office.
